Congratulations to Lakeside Elementary, Mrs. Callie Hoppes, and our wonderful community partners at Altrusa for receiving a 2026 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence!

Lakeside was one of only eight organizations across Indiana recognized and received the award in the Environmental Education and Outreach category. Under the leadership of Mrs. Hoppes and with support from Altrusa, our Green Team has grown to include 70 students and several dedicated adults who help maintain our vegetable and sensory gardens.

Our students have gained meaningful, hands-on experience with gardening, composting, nutrient recycling, conservation, and sustainability. Their work shows how learning can extend beyond the classroom and make a lasting difference in our school and community.

This statewide recognition is incredibly well deserved. Thank you, Mrs. Hoppes and Altrusa, for planting the seeds of curiosity, responsibility, and environmental stewardship in our Lakeside Lions!
