NICE JOB, to our Kindergarteners who have come back from Winter Break and jumped right in to writing complete sentences! We're so excited to catch up with everyone and hear how everybody's break was!

Today is January 4, which means it is World Braille Day. Braille is a means of communication for blind and partially sighted people invented by Louis Braille. We're thankful for his contributions to having an inclusive world!

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the smiley-est staff and students!! We hope 2024 is full of smiles, success, and love!

Kwanzaa begins today. This is a 7-day celebration of African heritage, culture, and unity. The holiday gets its name from the phrase; "matunda ya kawanza", meaning "first fruits" in Swahili. Happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate!

Merry Christmas to all of our Hawthorne families who celebrate. Wishing you so much love and happiness this holiday!

Students and staff had a fun morning WITH SANTA!!! We sang, danced, ate doughnuts, and took pictures with The Big Man, himself! Hawthorne wishes all of you a safe and happy winter break!

Today is the shortest day of the year. Does anyone know what today is called? If you guessed Winter Solstice, you're correct! Brighter, and longer, days ahead!

It has been SO fun seeing everyone's fanciest clothes!! Don't forget, tomorrow is everyone's favorite day!!! PAJAMA DAY!!!!

We are so proud of these Hawks for having perfect (or nearly perfect) attendance all year long! Coming to school is the best way to ensure learning & social development and we love to celebrate those who show up each and every day. Congratulations, Hawks!

We can't wait to see your holiday and HAWTHORNE SPIRIT, this week!!!

TOMORROW is picture retake day! If you missed picture day or weren't a Hawthorne student yet, tomorrow's your day to "Say Cheese"!!!!!

Hawthorne's Quarter 2 CORE Spirit Week is next week, December 19-22. We can't wait to see your festive and jolly spirit!

Here at Hawthorne, it's not only our students that participate in learning. Just about every Wednesday, our staff gathers and participates in Professional Development to continuing bettering ourselves and school! We're helping our students see the importance of lifelong learning!

It's never too late to celebrate COREtastic students like these ones!! Congratulations to these Hawks for being CORE students of the week last week (week of 12/4-12/8). We're so proud of you. Keep up the amazing CORE!

DON'T FORGET!!! This Wednesday, December 13, is the SCHOLASTIC BOOKFAIR! Kids who read for pleasure are likely to do better in school. Self-selected reading is twice as powerful as teacher-selected reading in developing motivation and comprehension.

In case you missed our littlest performers last night, here are some pictures of their Christmas Program! Thank you to Hawthorne's fabulous Music Teacher, Mrs. Wynn, for another fabulous (and adorable) festive concert!

Tonight at sundown starts the eight-night holiday of Hanukkah. Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate, we hope you have a festive Holiday of Lights!

*REMINDER* The Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!
Wed, Dec 13th - Tues, Dec 19th in the Hawthorne Media Center
Did you know? The Power of Choice: Children who read for pleasure are likely to do significantly better in school than their peers who rarely read. Self-selected reading (aka choice!) is twice as powerful as teacher-selected reading in developing motivation and comprehension.
Browse the catalog, watch book trailers, and set up an eWallet for your student all from our book fair's homepage:
