What a wonderful first full day of school! It was exciting to welcome all of our students and staff back together as we kicked off the new school year. The positive energy throughout the building was incredible, and I want to thank everyone for helping make it such a successful day. As we begin our first full week of school, let's continue building on that momentum.
Attendance remains one of our highest priorities. We encourage every student to be present, on time, and actively engaged in learning each day. The State of Indiana now includes attendance as one of the criteria for earning a Graduation Seal on a high school diploma, making consistent attendance more important than ever. Developing strong attendance habits now helps ensure students stay on track academically and graduate ready for their future.
I am also excited to report that our first day under our updated personal device expectations was a tremendous success. With just under 3,000 students in attendance, we confiscated only 14 cell phones throughout the day. That tells us our students understand the expectations and are committed to creating classrooms that are focused and free from distractions. Thank you to our staff, students, and families for supporting this important initiative. Together, we are helping students power down so they can power up in their learning!
A few important reminders for tomorrow, Monday, August 3:
Tomorrow is a Gold Day. Students should report to their 5th period class to begin the day. We encourage students to review their schedule in StudentVUE before arriving at school and to write their schedule down as a backup.
Fall sports tryouts and the first day of practice begin tomorrow. Students must have a current sports physical on file in order to participate in tryouts or practices.
Sports Physical Night will be held tomorrow from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Stonybrook, where students can receive a physical for $20. Please see this week's Sunday Newsletter for additional details.
Finally, a reminder that under Indiana SEA 78, all public and charter schools are required to maintain a device-free school day. At Warren Central, personal electronic devices must remain powered off and put away from 6:45 a.m. until 2:10 p.m. Your partnership helps us remain in compliance with state law while creating an environment where every student can learn without unnecessary distractions.
Thank you for your continued support as we begin what promises to be an outstanding school year. We look forward to seeing ALL of our students tomorrow for another great day of learning.
Have a wonderful evening, and remember:
Power Down... So You Can Power Up in Your Learning!
