The Superintendent and MSD of Warren Township Board of Education expect to conduct school each and every day. However, to ensure the safety of students and staff, it may be necessary to close or delay schools due to dangerous weather and/or road conditions.
Below are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding inclement weather delays/closures:
Q: How is the decision made to delay or close school for inclement weather?
The Superintendent and leadership team evaluate the weather forecast, road conditions, and review guidance provided by multiple agencies (National Weather Service, Marion County Department of Public Works, etc.) to determine the appropriate course of action. Q: How will students, staff, and families be notified of a school delay or closing?
As soon as the Superintendent makes a decision about school delays and/or cancellations, students, staff, and families will be notified in the following manner:

Q: When will MSD Warren Township use a Two-Hour Delay?
A two-hour delay may be used in a variety of weather-related situations, such as snow, ice, or extreme temperatures. When the temperature or wind chill temperature drops below a certain point, it is potentially dangerous for our students to be outside for an extended period of time. Extreme temperatures also impact the ability of our buses to start / run. Two-hour delays allow for the temperatures to increase, road conditions to improve, and for our transportation department to prepare our busses.
Q: How does a Two-Hour Delay impact the school day?
All transportation and school operations are delayed by 2 hours. Bus pick up times are 2 hours later than normal and all school start times will also start 2 hours later than normal.
High School Two-Hour Delay Start Time: 9:15 a.m.
Elementary (K-4) Two-Hour Delay Start Time: 10:05 a.m.
Intermediate / Middle School (5-8) Two-Hour Delay Start Time: 10:55 a.m.
Students will continue to follow their daily schedule, however, the length of their classes will be shortened.
Early morning practices / activities are canceled on Two-Hour Delay school days.
Dismissal times are not changed due to a Two-Hour Delay.
Q: How does a Two-Hour Delay impact the VIRTUAL school day?
Similar to a normal school day, all school operations are delayed by 2 hours. Two-Hour Delays on VIRTUAL school days allow our teachers and staff time to safely travel to their school or time to prepare to teach remotely.
Q: How does a Two-Hour Delay impact YMCA / Boys and Girls Club Before Care?
In most situations, YMCA and Boys and Girls Club Before Care will operate on their normal schedule. In the event that their schedule changes, parents will be notified as soon as possible through the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and MSD Warren Township.
Q: How does a Two-Hour Delay impact the Warren Early Childhood Center?
Childcare will open 2 hours later, 8:30 a.m.
Morning Preschool (half day) will be canceled
Full day preschool will begin at 11:20 a.m.
Afternoon Preschool (half day) will start on time
Q: How does a Two-Hour Delay impact the Walker Career Center during VIRTUAL learning?
In the event of a Two-Hour Delay during the VIRTUAL window, all Walker Career Center AM and PM classes will meet virtually on the 2-hour delay schedule.
Q: How will parents / caregivers be notified of an early release due to weather conditions or due to an unforeseen reason?
In the rare occasion that school needs to close early, parents / caregivers would be contacted immediately via phone call and email about our early release plans. Students would then be sent home on their regular bus, and car riders would wait in their designated locations.
Q: When will MSD Warren Township close schools for the day?
If conditions are not safe for students or staff and will not improve after a Two-Hour Delay, the Superintendent will make the decision to close schools for the day. This document provides additional information on the variables that could result in a closing.
Q: If schools are closed, will MSD Warren Township utilize eLearning Days?
Yes, the MSD Warren Township Board of Education approved the use of eLearning days to make up instructional time as a result of weather influenced or other valid reasons to close schools.
Q: Is there a limit to how many eLearning Days can be used?
According to the Indiana Department of Education, there is no limit on the number of eLearning days a school district can have. MSD Warren Township will monitor the use of eLearning days carefully. If needed, the district has added additional instructional days at the end of each school year.
Q: How does MSD Warren Township define an eLearning Day?
MSD Warren Township defines eLearning as the use of extended learning assignments that are designed to continue the learning taking place in the classroom. eLearning is not designed to introduce new content.
Q: How is student attendance taken on eLearning days?
Students will be marked present by submitting their eLearning assignments within 5 days of an eLearning day.
Q: How do students access their eLearning assignments?
Students in grades Kindergarten - 12th grade will access their eLearning assignments through their Canvas accounts. Teachers will post these assignments prior to the start of the school day. Students will have 5 days to complete these assignments.
Q: Are eLearning assignments graded?
Teachers will have the discretion to determine if an eLearning assignment will count for a grade or not. eLearning assignments do count toward a student’s attendance.
Q: Will students have access to their teachers on eLearning Days?
Yes, teachers will be accessible via email throughout the day and during their office hours. Office hours are as follows:
Elementary: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Intermediate / Middle School: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
High School: 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Q: How will students who have an IEP, ILP or 504 receive support on eLearning Days?
Parents and caregivers can refer to the accommodations guide (Spanish) for recommendations of accommodations that can support eLearning. Your child’s teacher, special education teacher, English learner (EL) teacher and counselor are available on eLearning days to answer questions and provide additional assistance. Services missed during eLearning may be made up when students return in person. Parents can always request a case conference to discuss any concerns they have with their child’s education.
Q: What if my student does not have their device at home?
If an eLearning day is announced in advance, students will be asked to take their devices home. In the event a student does not have their device on the eLearning day, he/she will be able to take their device home on the next in-person instructional day. Students will have 5 days to complete their eLearning assignments.
